FAQs

Can Cedarville Academy courses satisfy high school graduation requirements?

Depending on your high school’s regulations regarding dual enrollment, Cedarville Academy courses may count for both high school and college credit, giving you a head start on college while fulfilling requirements for high school graduation. Contact your guidance counselors to discuss dual-credit options.

Is financial aid available to Academy students?

You are not eligible for state or federal financial aid while participating in the Academy. Cedarville University, through the reduced Academy tuition rate, provides a scholarship of at least $1,600 per semester to all Academy students.

What are the technological requirements?

For most courses your computer must meet these system requirements. Some courses require an additional software purchase which must be installed and tested prior to the start of class. Individual course syllabi will specify any additional requirements.

Do online courses require labs and how are those handled?

For courses that have a lab component (e.g., Principles of Earth Science), you will receive a lab kit or virtual lab package. Then you will individually perform the lab and submit the results.

How will I obtain textbooks?

Required textbooks are listed in the syllabi. Textbooks can be purchased on campus at the University Bookstore, or you may order text books from the University Bookstore by contacting Rill Thompson at 937-766-3209. You may also purchase text books through an independent online bookstore such as Amazon.com

Does Cedarville Academy include any on-campus course options for high school students?

Cedarville Academy is an online program. Local high school students are eligible to enroll at Cedarville University as non-degree seeking students, and standard tuition arrangements apply. Contact admissions for additional information.

Does my performance in the Cedarville Academy affect my college GPA?

Yes. Grades from Academy courses become a part of your permanent academic transcript at Cedarville University.

What if I decide to drop a course?

Before dropping courses, consult with both the University and with your high school guidance counselor, carefully considering the impact on both high school and college graduation requirements. Published refund policies apply to tuition and fees paid as part of Cedarville Academy. Please refer to the "Academic Information" section of the online catalog for important deadlines and requirements related to dropping a course. To initiate the process of dropping an Academy course, contact the coordinator for Cedarville Academy.

What if I decide to take a semester off?

If you decide to take a semester off, or if you take two classes during fall semester and need to skip spring semester, you will automatically be withdrawn from the University. To register for another Academy course, you must complete the following re-application process:

  1. Complete the Cedarville Academy Re-admit Application. To receive a copy of the re-admit application form, contact the coordinator for Cedarville Academy.
  2. Submit an updated Church Leader Recommendation form. This form is available for download at www.cedarvilleacademy.com/admission.
  3. Have a $50 deposit in your student financial account.

However, if you have not been permitted to continue in the Academy because of academic performance, you must wait to re-apply as a degree-seeking freshman at Cedarville University.

What if I take two Academy classes in one semester and need to take a semester off?

You are allowed to take two Academy courses in an academic year (fall, spring). If you take two courses during fall semester of your junior year, you will skip spring semester and then be eligible to register again for fall semester of your senior year. Before registering, you must complete the re-application process as outlined in the question, “What if I decide to take a semester off?”

What if my high school break does not coincide with Cedarville Academy's?

You are expected to actively participate in the online course schedule provided by your instructors.

If I have applied to attend Cedarville University as a degree-seeking freshman, will my University application serve as my application to Cedarville Academy?

No, but if you are already accepted to the University as a degree-seeking freshman, you only need to complete one quick form to apply to the Academy. Contact the coordinator for Cedarville Academy for more information.

If I am attending Academy classes and wish to attend Cedarville University as a degree-seeking freshman, what do I need to do?

If you wish to attend Cedarville University after high school, you must complete the abbreviated Undergraduate Application: Change to Degree Seeking. Additional or updated application materials may also be required for degree-seeking admission.

Why can’t I find Academy Scholarship information on this website anymore?

In October 2009, Cedarville University announced significant changes to its financial aid program, which included increased financial aid awards. These changes will take effect in fall 2010. Under the new program, students who enter the Academy in fall 2010 will be eligible for increased aid upon entering the University, but there will no longer be a designated Academy Scholarship.

If my student is taking an Academy course during spring 2010, will he/she still be eligible for Academy Scholarships?

Cedarville University will honor Academy Scholarships for any Academy student entering the Academy by spring 2010. If you have questions regarding your child’s scholarship, please contact Paula Kordic.
